  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth

How to make Texas Chili Parlor Recipe

In a large Dutch oven or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the beef with a slotted spoon and set aside.

In the same pot, add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, cover the dried chilies with boiling water and let them soak for about 20 minutes, until they are softened.

Once the chilies are softened, remove them from the water and transfer them to a blender or food processor. Add 1 cup of the beef broth and puree until smooth.

Add the chili puree to the pot with the onions and garlic, along with the cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, and oregano. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Add the diced tomatoes, the remaining 1 cup of beef broth, and the browned beef to the pot. Bring the chili to a simmer and let it cook, covered, for about 2-3 hours, until the beef is tender and the flavors have melded together.

Season the chili with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot, garnished with shredded cheese, diced onions, and sour cream if desired.
